The exquisite Furama
City Centre has gotten some other hotels green with envy
by receiving the ASEAN Green Hotel Recognition
Award, which made its debut on 22nd January 2008
at the ASEAN Tourism Forum in Bangkok.
The Green
Hotel Standard is one of the six ASEAN Tourism
Standards that ASEAN’s
ten member-countries have adopted in ensuring
that ASEAN is a distinct haven. The award recognises
hotels that are environmentally friendly and
those that embrace measures to economise energy.
The major criteria comprises an environmental
chart policy, the use of green products, energy
and water conservation, solid waste management,
noise pollution control as well as improving
the quality of life to external areas surrounding
the hotel.
The ‘Green Committee’ at Furama
City Centre is chaired by Mr Michael Chin (Building
Management) and members include Mr Goh Hoo
Peng (Engineering), Mr Melvin Neo (Housekeeping),
Mr Andrew Yap (Food & Beverage) and Mr
Kent Law (Front Office). Happy to have received
this award, the dedicated committee is fast
looking ahead at more ‘Green’ measures
for the hotel.
Mr Vincent Kerk, General Manager
of Furama City Centre, says he is “very pleased
with the ‘Green Committee’ and
all staff at the hotel for the hard work and
commitment that they’ve put in to make
all of this happen.”
He also divulges that Furama City Centre aims to participate in the upcoming ‘Green
Mark Awards’ by the Building and Construction
Authority of Singapore, as well as receive
endorsement of the ‘GreenLabel’ by
the Singapore Environment Council.
